You will be picked up from your hotel between 1 and 1.30 and taken to the starting point of the 1.30 tour.
Balat is a historical area of Istanbul and known as one of the Jewish districts where Jews re-settled during the Ottoman Empire period. Synagogues, Armenian Churches, Romaic Churches, Byzantine Remnants, the intriguing streets and the colorful authentic buildings are part of exploring Balat.
Although once it had seven synagogues, today, Balat possess only two in good condition: Ahrida and Yambol Synagogues. The cast-iron Bulgarian Orthodox Church of Saint Stephen of the Bulgars, the city walls and the ruins of the Byzantine Place known as Tekfur Saray and the Armenian Church of Surp Hreshdagabet are all among the places the tour covers.
However as we walk around the neighbourhood, you will notice that it is becoming very trendy place to live and places are being renovated and there is many new cafes springing up every week. Prepare yourself to indulge in a historical and cultural experience that reflects a less discussed era.
